Workshops and Artistic Residencies
""We really appreciated you being willing to speak
to us. I think it is a great marriage when we can connect the performing arts, commerce and community service organizations. You did an outstanding job. That's not just my opinion, but several members have shared how much they enjoyed your presentation. - Also, I very much enjoyed your performance Thursday evening - BRAVO."—Ted Luck President of Rotary Club of Frederick Maryland & Supervisor of Education That Is Multicultural and Gifted and Talented, Frederick County Public Schools
"The students and faculty from both Florida State University and Tallahassee Community College were very complimentary and felt that they gained some valuable insights from your presentation. They were delighted to meet and work with a "real actor. "—Diane D. Greer - Director, Seven Days of Opening Nights Festival , Florida State University
The Joshua Kane Experience doesn't end at the stage door. In fact, some of his most exciting work has been done in classrooms and the greater community. No surprise, then, that the Connecticut State Commission on the Arts named Joshua a Master Teaching Artist in 1994. For more information about a specific workshop, make a selection from the menu above. Or, download a handy, printer-friendly sheet. Other ways to connect with your community include visits with your local Rotary and orchestral narration with your local or student symphony.
"Schools are so burdened with “teaching to the test” that the arts and the creative process are inevitably shortchanged. I am always amazed by the powerful changes that take place when I’m invited to work with schools, both at the arts center and in the classroom. Students labeled as “learning disabled” produce pages of imaginative writing; singing and speaking voices open up; Shakespearean verse becomes easy; and limiting beliefs are vaporized. The time I spend connecting with students and teachers in my workshops and theatrical residencies is the most pleasurable part of my work. The impact of a performance is ephemeral; but when I conduct a residency I have the satisfaction of knowing that I’ve been both an immediate “Vitamin B shot” and that I’ve also left behind tools that will last a lifetime.
